We were asked to make a difference to a beautifully designed but overgrown contemporary Mediterranean garden and bring back a sense of calmness and control.

The garden was primarily planted with structural evergreen hedging, shrubs, subshrubs, potted olives, tropical plants, ornamental grasses and a cherry tree.

After the initial garden visit and quotation price was agreed we arranged a day to start the work on our clients garden.

To start, the cherry tree was pruned to maintain the shape, encourage new healthy growth and to give privacy from overlooked neighbouring properties.

Low hedging of Portuguese laurel, Eleaeagnus were planted to define the border edges adding structure to the garden design. These were trimmed to give a neat appearance and complement the planting in the foreground.

Tropical plants such as the architectural evergreen yucca with sawed like leaves made a really lovely statement with the dead leaves being removed. The evergreen shrubs providing texture and structure were pruned to maintain their shape and control their growth giving the garden a sense of calm.

The English lavender attracting bees, butterflies and other pollinating insects bordering a tiered wall at the far end of the garden added another dimension. These had finished flowering and required trimming back to keep growth compact and encourage more flowers the following year.

The Ornamental miscanthus sinensis, pennisetum, zebra grass and small mounds of sedge added additional structure, texture, movement and sound complementing the neatly shaped hedging, shrubs and regimented blocks of laurel. Most of these deciduous grasses can be left over winter with their stems and plumes giving a long lasting display and then cut back to the ground February to March the following year.

Once the main jobs in the garden were completed, weeding done we applied a layer of  woodland mulch on the surface of the borders to help retain the moisture, suppress weeds, add nutrients and protect the plant roots against servere weather conditions.

All in all, a good days work completed and more importantly a happy customer. For seasonal regular garden makeovers and maintenance contact us at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.
